Georgia PTA - Every Child One Voice
This message is being sent on behalf of Sophronia Qualls, Georgia PTA Youth Services Chair and Caroline Harris, Early Childhood Education Chair:
PTA leaders – You know us both because we have been reaching out to you with all sorts of resourceful information and tremendous opportunities over the past years. We need your assistance in spreading a very important and timely announcement throughout your school communities to teachers (particularly English teachers); school district communication departments; principals and your PTA general membership. Please e-blast announcement, post on your local unit websites; social media and ask if school will allow it to be broadcast on morning/afternoon announcements. Once again, one of National PTA’s incredible partners, Kindle, is sponsoring the exciting Spellebrity Video Contest, which can make it possible for some very fortunate elementary and/or elementary aged students to win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. Yes, you heard us right – a free trip to our nation’s intriguing capital city for the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee. Individuals or teams of up to four elementary and middle school students will come together to brainstorm, film and edit a video of up to five minutes in length that inspires other students to want to read. The video should spell out how to kindle the love of reading and must feature three words that would be useful to know in a spelling bee that these students have learned through their reading. There is one more cool thing related to this contest. You want to guess what it is? It is absolutely FREE to enter. You will find full details by going to
Five Finalist teams will win trips to the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C., from May 28 – June 2, 2017. The Spellebrity Video Contest, presented by Kindle, is administered by the Scripps National Spelling Bee. They truly believe that when children kindle the love of reading, great spelling and vocabulary will follow. Will Georgia have some Spellebrity Video winners? We certainly hope so, and we will be cheering all of Georgia’s elementary and middle school students on to a win!
Submissions will be accepted up through February 20, 2017.
