Common Core Committee
During the Georgia PTA state convention, Governor Deal spoke and conveyed to attendees that a committee would be put together to carefully study Common Core State Standards.
On Friday, July 21, 2014, House Speaker , David Ralston, released the names of 15 committee members selected to carefully study the impact of the federal government on Common Core State Standards. Our state is among many others that have adopted these standards. House Speaker Ralston was quoted as stating: “I plan to ask this committee to examine these issues as well as the role the federal government played in the adoption of the Common Core state standards.” The study committee was created through the adoption of HR 550 on the last day of the General Assembly session.
The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Teacher and Leader Effectiveness
The Division of Teacher and Leader Effectiveness impacts student achievement by providing programs and resources to enhance teacher and leader effectiveness that include the following: Title II, Part A grant awards; teacher and leader effectiveness systems; and professional learning.
The goal of the division is to promote and support teacher and leader effectiveness to improve student learning in every classroom in the state.
- Manages effective use of Title II, Part A funds at the state and local level that are specifically targeted for use to meet the highly qualified teacher requirements of No Child Left Behind.
- Promotes effective use of professional development funds and activities to support school improvement.
- Maintains current data regarding teacher shortage areas.
- Supports the Teacher Keys Effectiveness System and Leader Keys Effectiveness System – Georgia’s teacher and leader evaluation and professional development processes.

The Georgia Student Growth Model (GSGM)! Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) describe the amount of growth a student has demonstrated, relative to other students across Georgia with the same achievement history. This tool provides school- and district-level SGP results. More information about the GSGM can be found at gsgm.gadoe.org.
