Dear
PTA Family,
As
we prepare for a new PTA year, let us remember that we have the
opportunity to set the standard and vision for our new Georgia PTA
century. It may appear lofty for us to think our leadership will
usher in the new Georgia PTA era. In actuality, it is our goals,
dedication, and priorities which will indeed set the tone and pave
the way for the next generation.
We
must continue to raise awareness regarding funding parity for all
schoolchildren. We must ensure that parent, teacher and community
partnerships flourish. A child who is well-prepared and ready to
begin his/her education has a better chance to reach his/her graduation
and post secondary possibilities. When every child's success is
assured, it guarantees continued democracy in our nation.
There
are many levels of participation within PTA and I hope you will
take the opportunity to volunteer your time, skills and expertise
for your local school. The environment, science and math are areas
critical to our national competitiveness and our children's financial
security.
We
must mobilize all our efforts to speak for all children at every
opportunity. We will continue to speak with community and political
leaders to compel legislation that assures basic health care by
funding school nurses for all schools. PTA leaders will mobilize
for every issue that has the potential to affect children, education,
community and society. The following quote from the book When
Children Come First sums up the secret of the continuing endurance
of PTA:
"Wherever
two or three are gathered together in a PTA, there is the National
Congress. Because these - two, three, thirty, or a hundred - speak
of problems that are theirs, the sum total of all voices is the
voice of America's responsible parenthood and teacherhood. In the
National Congress of Parents and Teachers and in all its state branches
and local units is a movement that is continuing to be what is,
has always been, and that is yet growing with each new year. And
herein lies the secret of its enduring youth and increasing maturity.
This is not a movement directed toward a grand climax where accomplishment
is to be triumphantly final. Rather it is one in which every achievement
merely reveals new things still to accomplish."
Become
a protector of every child and join Georgia PTA.
Regards,
Leslie
Cushman
